Los Angeles Stories
Ry Cooder
A trio man is aware of his surroundings, to correspond his songs to the mood.
Must never take sides, but restore calm during disagreements.
"Los Angeles is a maze of class distinctions."
"Mariachis are hardly more than street beggars! Mariachis are of the mestizo class, specializing in the primitive music
of the migrant and the homesick. I am educated. I read the stand, I know the ostinato, crescendo, obbligato. Trio is refined and elegant."
At this point I am very confused and have no idea what the reading is going to be about. But as I continued reading, I was dragged into the story. I felt it was a little contradictory, like it would go one way and then turn around and go the other way. With the last song, la vida es un suño, I thought about how life is always changing directions. One moment things can be great, and within the blink of an eye, it can all reverse, turn out to be a lie, or simply disappear and everything is gone.
LA VIDA ES UN SUEÑO
Después que uno vive veinte desengaños
que importa uno más,
después que conozcas la acción de la vida
no debes llorar.
No podre vivir jamas
Y pensar que nunca mas
Estaras junto a mi.
Sin ti,
Que me puede ya importar,
Si lo que me hace llorar
Esta lejos de aqui.
Sin ti,
No hay clemencia en mi dolor,
La esperanza de mi amor
Te la llevas al fin.
Sin ti,
Es inutil vivir,
Como inutil sera
El quererte olvidar.
"The poetry is simple, the sentiment is common. But there is the art! Effortless, comfortable, each thought set before the listener like pearls strung into a necklace by the hands of a beautiful woman, one by on."
